My name is Alina Hyder and I am an Industrial Design student at the University of Cincinnati’s DAAP Program. I am also pursuing a minor in Information Technology.
Besides working as an undergrad student, I have actively participated in social movements such as women empowerment and environmental justice. I took on a number of leadership positions and spent time educating the community about climate change and sexist language within official documents.
Women empowerment plays a big role in my life as a woman in martial arts. Participating in a male-dominated sport had its challenges, but that didn’t stop me from achieving my third-degree black belt and placing in the World Top Ten in the NASKA division in high school. Karate taught me that I can meet the goals that I set as long as I work hard for them. I’ve learned to use this mindset in my everyday life and strive to do well.
I want to combine my knowledge of design, technology, and activism to create positive change in the world.
